I thought of the title for this post earlier this afternoon after working on some social media ads for my 10 Piece Campaign. My classmate mentioned to me that she thought it was interesting that I don’t sketch out a lot of plans for my projects. I made the joke that I was “making the ads from scratch” since I didn’t do any prior planning before jumping into the software. I’ve always had issues with my sketches looking different after recreating them in my software, so I do my own version of the planning stage instead.
One of the parts of my campaign was to make a social media banner, and at least two ads. I had a general idea for the banner, which I got done pretty quickly, but I was left to figure out what I wanted my ads to be about. After looking through Pinterest for a while, I had a jumping-off point.

As I’ve been designing things for this campaign, I always would think that everything looks very “gen-z”. I don’t really know how to explain my reasoning behind that, though, it’s more of just a feeling.
With my banner, I kept the same brick red color I’ve been using for other pieces, and I made the stamp boarder around the edges the same that I used on my logo. I didn’t want to put the logo itself on my banner because I’d have problems trying to scale it up. I imitated the look of the logo, but tweaked it so my elements could work with the banner size that I picked out.
I made both of my ads square sized since they were going to be social media instead of print content. My first ad is promoting a new spring drink, and the other is going to persuade people to join the Swerve Rewards Program (the name is still pending).
The cup in my first ad looks a little odd, but hopefully it’ll look a little better once I put my own photo in instead. Scooters has a strawberry matcha drink, so I was going to order one and photograph it making sure none of their branding was visible in the photo.
Most of my time and attention has been going towards this project, and I feel like it’ll be nice to shift my focus to something else for a while (cough cough…my video…). I’m still really excited to keep working on it, though!
